$23.08 / hour. Vacation pay of 6% included with each pay

Background:

 

The Edmonton Mennonite Centre (EMCN) has been active in Edmonton since 1981 and works with individuals of all ages and families coming to Edmonton from every part of the world. The majority of those people are sponsored refugees, landed immigrants who have been in Canada five years or less but also included are people who have become citizens, refugee claimants and visitors. In a year, we serve individuals and families from more than 100 places of origin.   Services are available in both official languages and in about 30 other languages.

 

Summary of Position:

 

This is a position supporting LINC classrooms where the Teaching Assistant will be responsible for working with individual students, small groups, and large groups under the direction of the teacher.

 

 

Key Responsibilities and Activities:

 

  • Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to support skill development and reinforce concepts taught in class.
  • Assist teachers with administering assessments
  • Assist with creating resources and bulletin board displays
  • Observe students’ performance and report to the teacher
  • Provide support for teachers and students using class sets of chrome books
  • Assist students with maintaining Language Companion binders
  • Attend staff meetings

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor of Education or Arts preferred
  • Must have excellent English Language skills
  • Experience in an adult ESL educational setting an asset
  • General proficiency with computers
  • Security Clearance by Edmonton Police Service within past 6 monthsDesired Skills:
