Yonge Street Mission (YSM) is the vibrant, local Christian development agency that is leading an infectious movement - going beyond meeting immediate needs by offering holistic programs and a pathway that can transform the lives of people living with poverty in Toronto from merely surviving to thriving.

YSM is seeking a full-time, Workforce & Business Development Specialist to address the needs of employers and help community member’s access sustainable and decent work. This management role will provide leadership to develop, educate and engage sector-based business partnerships



The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the development, management, and implementation of a business engagement plan to complement the objectives of the overall Workforce Development Strategy and YSM goals
  • Networking and stewarding relationships with employers, unions and professional associations by executing partnerships for the future workforce
  • Managing and forecasting on budget, expenditure, and performance measurements
  • Developing and delivering sector-specific employer engagement presentations
  • Researching labour market trends in being responsive to the rapid change in the workforce
  • Collaborating with the workforce development team and working groups to ensure the pathway to employment model is responsive to the workforce demand and individual’s need
  • Working closely with the Workforce Development Manager in the building and transitioning towards a workforce development framework
  • Providing regular supervision to direct reports including: spiritual care, coaching, staff development and performance management



The successful candidate will have the following skills and training:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with marginalized communities
  • Proven ability to develop and use contacts to achieve outcome
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks within specified high standards and in a determined timeframe
  • Proven leadership skills; including the ability to be innovative and effectively organize, process, and communicate information in a changing work environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills with proven ability to interact appropriately with various stakeholders; including community members, donors & business leaders
  • Strong technical writing skills in drafting agreements and contracts
  • Experience in managing a team and the ability to motivate and lead others to accomplish goals
  • Ability to troubleshoot, identify problems and achieve solutions
  • A biblical understanding of the unique aspects of ministry among the poor
  • A police check will be required / Valid driver’s license is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to YSM’s principles of faith, mission and values
