  St. Paul’s Social Services – Fellowship Centre

 

St. Paul’s Social Services (SPSS), which includes the Food Bank and the Fellowship Centre, is a non-profit charitable agency that has provided support to families and individuals for over 30 years.   The Fellowship Centre serves lunch twice weekly to 600 – 800 guests a month.  St. Paul’s Social Services is located at St. Paul’s Cathedral (Anglican), and receives financial, material and volunteer support from churches, other faith communities, and the general public. The Fellowship Centre, open Mondays and Wednesdays, is staffed by dedicated volunteers who prepare and serve a home-cooked hot lunch to support those in our community in need.

Job Description:   Coordinator Position – 12 hours per week

Job Summary: The Fellowship Centre Coordinator will work with the volunteers to provide food service to our guests while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.  He or she will also be responsible under the supervision of the Manager of St. Paul’s Social Services, for purchasing food from wholesale and retail distributors for Fellowship Centre meals. In coordination with volunteer team leaders, the Coordinator will assist in the planning of menus and in preparing and serving food, keeping in mind food rotation and effective use of food resources.  Responsible to the Manager of St. Paul’s Social Services, the coordinator will participate in team meetings and work within a team setting.

 

 Competencies:

Essential -

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and enthusiastically in a team setting
  • Experience as a volunteer and/or working directly with volunteers
  • Ability to actively assist in the preparation of nutritious and flavourful meals
  • Food Handler’s Certification- London Middlesex Health Unit –or willing to obtain
  • Current Police Check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Adaptable and comfortable working with a population of diverse individuals living in poverty / homeless / recipients of social service support. Understanding of people living with mental illness and / or living with addiction
  • Able to lift 20-25 lb., manage stairs and periods of prolonged standing / walking
  • Able to occasionally work flexible hours
  • Valid Driver’s license and use of a vehicle

 

 

Desirable but not essential -

  • Education in nutrition, social services, health care or equivalent education and /or experience. (Grade 12 – minimum)
  • Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide and Health Canada’s Food and Nutrition Guidelines
  • First Aid / CPR certification (or willing to obtain)
  • Experience working in a food setting, maintaining Safe Food Handling standards
  • Ability to gather and manage simple statistical reports
