Temporary Full Time (35 hours per week) – Until July 13, 2019



This position involves both direct client involvement and supervisory duties within the components of the psychosocial rehabilitation clubhouse model. Provides support to Program Manager in the supervision and support to staff, volunteers and practicum students. Supports clients within the program and works within the model of psychosocial rehabilitation. Provides employment services to a caseload of clients recovering from a mental illness seeking competitive employment in an integrated community setting. Demonstrates leadership in all aspects of the role.






  • Adheres to the policies and standards of Options Community Services, as established in policy and program manuals, Health & Safety Guidelines, job descriptions, written memos, and verbal agreements.
  • Notifies the Program Manager of unresolved or continuing performance difficulties.
  • Establishes and maintain a positive working relationship with other staff, volunteers, clients and other professionals. Works as a member of a team. Serves as a positive role model to staff practicum students and volunteers and liaises with management on behalf of staff.
  • Participates as requested in OCS leadership team activities, and shows overall leadership to advance program and agency objectives.
  • Adheres to and monitors staff compliance with all of OCS policies, including those outlined in the OCS Policy and Procedure manual, the program practice / procedure manual and health and safety guidelines.
  • Participates in the evaluation and training of staff, practicum students and volunteers.
  • Conducts case reviews and monitors performance of staff. Ensures client record system is utilized and maintained according to policy.
  • Able to recognize, analyze and strategize around potential emergency situations. Reports problems to supervisor and or proper authorities.
  • Makes recommendations with regard to the development of the program and participates in program evaluations. Assess strategy on an ongoing basis to ensure effectiveness of service.
  • Collaborates with other professionals as needed. Liaises with other community services and organizations.
  • Attends team meetings and as appropriate, community committees, meetings forums and events.
  • Records expense accounts and works within program budget.
  • Maintains professional growth and keep up to date on trends related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform other clubhouse duties to ensure the successful operation of the program.
  • Follow written and verbal directives from the immediate supervisor, Executive Director or designate.
  • Follow the Child Abuse Protocol and the General Safety Guidelines.


Employment Service Duties:


  • Assesses and evaluates clients’ vocational rehabilitation needs initially and on an ongoing basis through methods such as collaborating with the client to determine their interests, skills and abilities.
  • Creates, in conjunction with the client, a vocational rehabilitation plan in accordance with clients’ preferences, needs and abilities with the ultimate aim of securing competitive employment.
  • Conducts job development, direct marketing and job search through methods such as developing networks and links with community employers and negotiating job accommodations and workplace agreements. Ensures that the client is an active participant in this process.
  • Works with clients in the community and accompanies clients as needed. May assist clients with attending appointments by either providing transportation when necessary, or teaching transportation routes/methods as required.
  • Provides individual employment counseling including but not limited to: Career Planning including career exploration, occupational research and goals, Job Search including resume preparation, cold calling and work experience, Employment Maintenance, including problem solving and decision making.
  • Facilitates and leads group life skills training sessions as determined by client groups needs. Areas covered to include communication skills, managing information, using numbers, problem solving skills, adaptability, work safety and team work skills.
  • Provides or facilitates on-site job coaching to ensure orientation and on going training for both clients and employers as required.
  • Provides accurate reports including statistical data and log notes on clients’ progress. Reports on clients’ progress made towards goals and objectives as required.



Education, Training, and Experience

  • BA or a related combination of education and experience
  • Current Level I First Aid certificate and FoodSafe

  • Demonstrated proficiency in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a leadership role
  • High Degree of flexibility and initiative
  • Knowledge of group processes and facilitation techniques
  • Good organizational, time management and general management skills
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as part of a staff team
  • Knowledge of mental illnesses/medications
  • Knowledge of employment counseling including but not limited to: Career Planning, career exploration, occupational research and goals, Job Search including resume preparation, cold calling and work experience, Employment Maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to develop program related reference and resource materials
  • Ability to identify sensitive issues, maintain confidentiality and a commitment to a problem solving approach.
  • Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity
  • Must have a Class 4 Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
  • Have no relevant criminal history
  • Crisis Line experience an asset
