Building Internal Capacity to Expand Food Access with Dignity


Working as part of the Community Food Access (CFA) Team, the Administrative Assistant takes the lead on developing new systems to make our fourteen food bank sites run smoothly. As the complexity of operations at sites and our network of partners grow, we need a team player who takes a compassionate, person-centred approach to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of service provision. This role strikes a balance between working behind the scenes at our main office to streamline ordering, reporting and other administrative duties, and working at sites to build volunteer capacity in the areas of registration and member engagement.


Our ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and can zoom-out to a larger systems perspective. We need to run a tight ship while not getting lost in the weeds. Our ideal candidate has excellent time-management skills and can prioritize tasks effectively, takes initiative, is responsive to feedback and naturally builds strong relationships. Further, they are able to navigate potentially challenging social environments and are committed to co-creating safe and welcoming spaces. They are also is interested in growing their skill set and committed to ongoing learning.




Member Services Support (40%)

  • Oversee the administration and volunteer training for our on-site Member Management System (registration and card scanning).
  • Support the execution of the Member Relationship Strategy (outreach & engagement).
  • Support member services at our main office location.

Administrative Support: (60%)

  • Overall CFA team administrative support including but not limited to ordering, invoicing, site visit scheduling and data tracking.
  • Develop systems & processes to improve efficiency of our work and how we communicate interdepartmentally.


  • Diploma / Degree in Social Work or similar field.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to strengthen and/or develop administrative systems.
  • Familiarity with vulnerable populations.
  • Additional language skills an asset.


This is a full-time position, permanent position at 37.5 hours a week. Monday to Friday with occasional weekends and evenings required. The position will require physically demanding work including long periods of standing, usage of stairs, and transportation to new sites weekly, assistance in site set up and the movement of boxes and supplies.
