Purpose and Objective


The YMCA is currently preparing to open and manage the District of Vanderhoof’s new Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre. This facility is currently under construction and scheduled to open by the end of 2018. We are seeking an enthusiastic maintenance and operations lead ready to support this fantastic new facility.


The Facility Operations Coordinator is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and well-maintained facility ready to meet the needs of all participants. This role will oversee the building and maintenance repair, pool heating and filtering equipment, and custodial tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, proactive, and outcomes focused approach to facility maintenance and operations.
  • Responsible for pool heating and filtration equipment.
  • Responsible for training and coaching staff to support a safe, clean and well-maintained facility.
  • Accountable for achieving operations and maintenance goals through financial management of the budget.
  • Accountable for the oversight of operations and maintenance programs and schedules to ensure alignmetn with the Y mission, vision and strategic plan goals and the Operational Management Agreement between the YMCA and District of Vanderhoof.
  • Supports high service standards and satisfaction ratings throughout the centre. Achieves all YMCA quality management targets.
  • Ensures compliance with all provincial, regional and national YMCA initiatives.
  • Participates as a member of the facility leadership team to ensure seamless integration of operations and maintenance programs and schedules into the various operations in the facility.
  • Adherence to all YMCA of Northern BC policies
  • Familiarity and compliance with applicable legislation including Employment Standards, Human Rights, Work Safe in order to safe guard the respectful and fair treatment of staff, volunteers, members, participants and all visitors to the facility
  • Familiarity and compliance with applicable local, provincial and national standards and requirements related to aquatic facility operations

  • A combination of experience and training related to aquatic operations and maintenance.
  • A minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, additional vocational training will be considered an asset.
  • Current BCRPA Pool Operators Level I and II certificates or the ability to complete this course within the next 3 months.
  • 3-5 years experience working within and aquatic facility is preferred; however, similar or equivalent facility operations and maintenance experience will be considered.
  • Current WHMIS certification or willingness to complete.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to complete.
  • Additional supervisory, coaching, instructing experience an asset.
  • 3 satisfactory professional references
  • Satisfactory criminal record check and clear vulnerable sector search
  • Physical ability to perform the tasks required

Working Conditions

  • New Aquatic Centre scheduled to open by end of 2018.
  • Evening or weekend work will be required
  • Occasional participation in Y community events
  • Flexibility required to meet changing demands
