Program Description

 

The Journey to Success program is designed to assist Aboriginal people with finding and maintaining employment. This program prepares and certifies Aboriginal people so they have the skills and certifications required for employment.

 

 

Employment Counsellor

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one employment counselling and provide information and resources;
  • Assist and guide clients with job search strategies;
  • Offer a supportive and motivational approach to career planning and employment counselling;
  • Build and foster relationships with all community stakeholders;
  • Keep records in Mobius Database;
  • Market the program and recruit clients;
  • Create and Maintain employer database;
  • Facilitate workshops as needed;
  • Conduct 90 & 180 day follow ups of clients;
  • Assist Team Lead with gathering stats;
  • Provide employment counselling support at two different locations in the city;
  • Assist with duties as requested by the Team Leader or Program Manager.

 

 Education and Credentials

  • Diploma in Human Services; or 3-5 years’ experience in a related field;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Ability to assess and recognize the needs of clients in the areas of career planning and development, job readiness skills, planning and identifying barriers to employment;
  • Intermediate experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook).
  • Highly detail oriented and organized;
  • Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture is an asset;
  • Criminal Records Check (within 6 months).
  • Child and Family Intervention Records Check (within 6 months).
  • Current valid Driver’s License and Driver’s abstract required prior to starting employment.

 

 Salary and Benefits:

  • Monthly salary, based on working 34.50hrs per week.
  • Paid sick and wellness days after completing 3 months’ probation.
  • Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months employment.

 

Start Date:

This position is to start immediately.
