Location: St. Marys Salary: $14.69 per hour


Conduct intake applications and screen clients for emergency financial assistance including food, clothing and household needs.

Maintain accurate records of client information on The Salvation Army’s computer system while maintaining confidentiality and providing statistical reports. i.e. Client Management System and Kettles; prepare and submit in a timely manner position related correspondence as necessary.

Organize and oversee foodbank ordering and/or receipt of food donations, recording, tidiness and safety of all areas used.

Organize and maintain cleanliness of all areas used by the food bank, etc.

Assist in other programs/workshops provided for clients by the Community and Family Services, as appropriate.

Network with other churches, government and community groups, and social service providers to enhance and expand current services. 

Coordinate resources and programs for the benefit of clients when necessary. i.e. access to provision of fresh food, etc.

Assist with Community & Family Services programs, i.e. Christmas food and toy hamper program, kid’s camp, budgeting and cooking, annual Community Christmas dinner etc.

Participate in the Christmas program

  • Receive and process telephone calls from clients requiring Christmas assistance
  • Schedule kettle worker volunteers
  • Accompany driver in the delivery and pick-up kettles to/from sites daily
  • Ensure the security of kettle donations
  • Assist the Corps Officer in counting and recording the kettle donations

Assist with the supervision and scheduling of Community and Family Service volunteers.

Perform other position related duties as required.



Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Services work or equivalent

Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons and individuals with mental health issues a variety of social service programs.

Current Safe Food Handling Certification

Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality

Knowledge of community based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.

Strong ability to work with difficult or emotionally needy people in a patient and compassionate manner

Be able to work effectively with economically disadvantaged people

Have good organizational skills and the ability to motivate others

Good oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills

Attentive listening skills

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with supervision in a multi-faceted environment

Be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds.

Excellent computer and database skills (particularly Excel, Word, and Internet); ensuring accuracy and attention to detail

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license, own vehicle and current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered


This is temporary, full time position is based on 25 hours per week for up to 6 months.  This temporary employment opportunity will start as soon as possible. 


Either party may terminate this temporary employment contract for any reason and at any time by providing the other with one (1) weeks written notice.


Schedule to be set by the supervisor and some flexibility in scheduling is required, some weekend and evening work will be required. Some travel is required in order to complete responsibilities and attend training offsite when applicable.   Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and include a ½-hour unpaid meal break.


Please note: there will be a seasonal temporary increase in hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week for a short period of time during the months of November and December for approximately five (5) weeks, and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break as required.
