East Metro Youth Services, and a fully accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre serving adolescents and their families in East Toronto for over 40 years, is inviting applications for the following contract position:

 

Transitional Support Services Therapist and Ontario Works (OW)-Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Therapist. Full Time Contract beginning October 2018 until December 2018 (with possible extension)

 

The candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the greatest possible access to the continuum of mental health services are in place to facilitate reintegration of children and youth upon discharge from Scarborough and Rouge Valley Hospital into the community as well as working with identified youth with disabilities referred via OW and ODSP.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Work with youth and families individually/group practicing cultural competency and using Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and other competency-based therapy models.
  • Provide brief support and counselling for children/youth and their families, who are not yet attached to an appropriate Children’s Mental Health agency and to assist the respective hospital staff in making referrals for further support and/or counselling in the community.
  • Deliver individual therapy in the home, in the community, or through other means of counselling.
  • Provide therapeutic support to youth with disabilities and their families identified via OW and ODSP.
  • Attend and participate in case review meetings for youth and families on an as needed basis with Scarborough Rouge Valley hospital and the OW-ODSP offices.
  • Provide consultation and education to service providers, clients and families pre and post discharge from the hospital beds and to prevent the need for readmission.
  • To maintain, through appropriate communication and coordination, a collaborative working relationship with the multi-disciplinary team and other involved professionals both within and outside of EMYS.
  • Complete integrated comprehensive assessments and clinical reports as required, including the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) as well as timely service statistics and recordings.
  • Complete documentation in compliance with the Canadian Accreditation Centre standards.
  • Provide consultation and education to service providers, clients and families on various mental health topics i.e. trauma, anxiety, suicide prevention, cycle of exploitation, harm reduction.
  • Be willing to work in the community. Flexibility is required as this position involves irregular hours including evening work.

QualificationsC

  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology or equivalent and eligible for certification /membership in a registered professional association for practitioners in clinical therapy;
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical therapy experience working with youth and families;
  • Knowledge of a range of disabilities and mental health concerns and their related resources and systems;
  • Knowledge of OW, ODSP, Child Welfare and the hospital system is a strong asset;
  • Have a strong foundational knowledge of adolescent development, family systems issues, mental health, substance abuse, and working with youth from diverse communities including the LGBTQ+ community;
  • Comfortable dealing with individuals who may be suicidal and/or in crisis;
  • Have strong communication skills - written, verbal and computer literacy;
  • Have a valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle or have access to transportation within east Toronto;
  • Flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays required.
  • Vulnerable Police check will be required prior to commencing position; and,
  • Preferred candidates will be bilingual in both official languages.
