COMMUNITY SCHOOL TEAM (CST) PROGRAMMER

 

An exciting opportunity to support vulnerable elementary and secondary students after school with the Vancouver Board of Education

 

The Vancouver Board of Education is currently seeking a Part-Time Programmer to support vulnerable secondary students at Windermere Secondary. Our large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to over 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and over 2,000 adults in adult education programs. Serving our diverse district in 110 facility sites, our programs and services are designed to address both complex challenges and extraordinary opportunities.

 

Job Description:

As a Programmer with the Windermere Community Schools Team, you will work collaboratively with our community partners to facilitate two exceptional Girls Group programs for referred students in Grades 8-9 and Grades 10-12. In this role, you will be responsible for working with school staff to recruit and build strong relationships with at-risk female youth. Working within a budget, you will organize group activities including guest speakers, out trips, and a year-end Girls Group film project (see last year’s film by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbix_UX2Hyo). You will also serve as an important ambassador for the Community Schools Team and will ensure that our programming, training, and events are always held to the highest standard of quality.

 

In this role, you will report to and work closely with the Community Schools Coordinator to identify connections in the Windermere family of schools hub, and will respond to feedback from students, families, school staff, Administrators, and community partners. Your excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills will help you to provide effective mentorship to adolescent girls, promote the Girls Group programs in schools and the community, collect registration forms, manage program budgets, facilitate year-end projects and events, and report outcomes to funders and community stakeholders when required. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in any of the following areas: Child and Youth Care, Recreation Leadership, Human Kinetics, Community Development, Social Work or Social Sciences, Education and/or equivalent work experience
  • Min 2 years of experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting
  • Current first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development and/or QUEST2 certification or willingness to obtain

 

Hours and Remuneration:

The job is approximately 10 hours per week including Wednesday afternoons with flexibility in scheduling. The position offers an hourly wage of $18.76 - $24.81 (plus 10.67% in lieu of benefits) depending on experience.
