Hearts In Action is a unique day camp that offers enjoyable, goal-directed activities and purposeful support for children, youth and young adults with special needs. AdaptAbilities is currently looking for a Team Lead to be responsible for leading events and childcare conferences in the year Round HIA Program. Team Leads are key to ensuring individual outcomes are met, program(s) run smoothly and facilities are maintained. The Team Lead plans, leads and supports staff to implement activities in the areas of recreation and motor skills, essential life skills and expressive arts.


Key Functions

  • Ensure a fun and exciting environment
  • Develop lesson plans and lead purposeful activities
  • Ensure daily plans are prepared and delivered in a way that is meaningful and engaging
  • Develop and facilitate genuine relationships while supporting and encouraging individuals to achieve their goals
  • Empower children and adults to create meaningful days
  • Be proactive in creating a safe environment and minimizing risks
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, co-workers and supervisors
  • Supervise, support, mentor and provide leadership and resources to staff and volunteers
  • Build a vision of inclusion, one person at a time.


  • Some post-secondary education in relevant discipline
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in related field
  • Minimum 1 year leadership experience
  • Strong organization skills, flexibility and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to connect with children and young adults who have special needs
  • Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check
  • Must possess First Aid Certificate including CPR, Beyond Behaviors, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol and Medication Administration.

Working Conditions

This contract position takes place October 26, 2018 through to May 26, 2018. Shifts are scheduled between 5pm-10pm on Friday, and 7:30am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday. This position is a casual contract position between 15-20 hours per month.

Applicants must be available to work all the following dates: October 26, 27 and 28, 2018; November 23, 24 and 25, 2018; February 1, 2 and 3, 2019;  March 8, 9 and 10, 2019;  April 5 and 6, 2019;  May 24, 25 and 26, 2019.    


Compensation Package

$19.10 - $24.60 per hour
