FULL TIME FOSTER/KINSHIP CARE SUPPORT WORKER - EDMONTON, AB

(6 month “term” position with the possibility of a further extension)

Program/Position overview: The Family Support Worker is responsible for the day to day support and supervision of agency foster and kinship families. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to mentor and support foster/kinship homes and their clients. The Family Support Worker will work closely with the Supervisor/Program Director in an attempt to maintain a superior quality foster/kinship care program. The Support Worker reports to the Program Director/Supervisor.

The ideal candidate will:

    • Have knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, customs and beliefs;
    • Have a good understanding of current and emerging issues of importance to Indigenous people and communities;
    • Able to speak or understand any of the traditional languages within Northern Alberta will be a definite asset;
    • Experience in working with Indigenous children, families and communities in a supportive and culturally respected manner;
    • Have minimum 2 years of case management experience;
    • Be ethically motivated, and adhere to a belief system that the family is the preferred place for children;
    • Have strong advocacy skills with the ability to maintain high level of professionalism under stress;
    • Possess good conflict resolution skills, be results oriented, a team player and positive role model for others;
  • Be familiar with Alberta’s child protection services;

 

  • Demonstrate effective organizational, time-management and communication (oral and written) skills;
  • Be open to work flexible hours that meet the needs of the children/families including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications/Experience: Must have a diploma/degree in Human Services or equivalent (if education is in Social Work, must be registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers) and minimum 2 years of combined experience working in community outreach programs.

Other requirements: A clear Alberta Police Information Check (vulnerable sector included) and Intervention Record Check (both dated within last 6 months), a driver's abstract (less than 6 demerit points) are conditions of employment and the financial responsibility of the candidate. Also, a valid Alberta driver’s licence (minimum class 5), a reliable vehicle to be used for work purposes (requirement to transport clients in your personal vehicle) with $2 million dollars insurance and must be confident with city and rural driving. Extensive travel within Edmonton and surrounding areas and after-hours on-call duties on a rotational basis are expected.

Salary & Benefits: Salary range is $51,500.00 - $66,500.00 annually (salary commensurate with education and experience). We also provide full-time employees with a 100% employer paid health benefits package (which includes vision, dental and prescription drug coverage, massage therapy, etc.) a 100% employer paid RRSP equaling 3% of annual salary, and a flexible schedule. We also offer free courses and workshops in-house for all of our employees.
