Founded in 1982, Richmond Society for Community Living is a not-for-profit organization that helps individuals with developmental disabilities increase their independence and improve the quality of life through specialized services.

We are currently seeking Intervenors for both full time and casual/on-call roles.


What is an Intervenor?


Intervenors are specially trained professionals who act as the “eyes” and “ears” of the individual who is deafblind through the sense of touch.


An Intervenor facilitates access to environmental information that is usually gained through vision and hearing for clients living with deafblindness. The Intervenor will assist clients to gather information, learn concepts and skills, develop communication and language, and establish relationships that lead to greater independence and community involvement.


Given the unique needs of individuals with deafblindness, Richmond Society for Community Living offers training for new employees, as well as ongoing and continuous training.


Some of the ways you will make a difference everyday :

  • Assist clients in reaching their full potential by communicating their needs, likes and preferences, and empowering clients to make informed decisions and be active participants in all areas of their lives.
  • Responsible to work as part of a team to support the client(s) in making informed choices and decisions. Follows activity plans, based on client’s personal plans and provide input on the client’s progress to the team.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of client strategy plans.
  • Provide personal care as required

  • Post-Secondary Education in Intervenor for Deafblind Persons, Community Support Worker, Social Services Worker, ASL Training, Personal Support Worker or related field.
  • At least 6 months of related work experience.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn techniques for providing Intervenor Services to people with deafblindness.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and must demonstrate respect, leadership, trust and teamwork.
  • Current First Aid certification and Clear Criminal Record Check
