Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill our Utility Worker position. The Utility
Worker is required to perform various cleaning, light maintenance and physical tasks. The position
requires the individual to adhere to safety practices, handle hazardous materials, and assist with

The Utility Worker’s work week would consist of 6 hours a day Monday to Friday from 8:00 am until
2:00 pm or from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Both shift schedules would consist of 30 hours per week.
Some shift rotation may be required.

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

 Ability to complete tasks efficiently in tight headline
 Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and cohesively as part
of a team
 Ability to remain calm and courteous at all times
 Uphold Health and Safety standards and be actively involved in maintaining a safe
work environment
 Consistently adhere to Bissell Centre standards and policies and code of ethics
 Enforce agency policies and protocols as required
 Clean and disinfect work premises
 Operate power scrubber as required
 Keep log books and check sheets up to date and accurate
 Test and record disinfectant solutions as per targets
 Maintain and report weekly inventory of supplies and products
 Furniture and office moving and set up
 Light maintenance duties
 Any other assistance as requested by the Operations Manager


 WHIMIS Certification
 Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions
 Completion of High School with some secondary education or janitorial training and/or
 Several years of relevant experience and basic knowledge of janitorial duties with some
experience in operations maintenance and grounds keeping
 Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core an asset


Physical Aspects of Position (includes but is not limited to):

 Constant standing and walking
 Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds with careful decision-making on weight
 Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling
 Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and/or ramps
 Could involve repetitive movements
 Be physically able and willing to work outside in either hot or cold environments and
possess the proper and safe clothing required to complete the tasks regardless of

Conditions of Work:
 Workload may fluctuate; must be a self-starter
 Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, waste materials and human pathogens
 Travel may be involved between Bissell Centre properties
 Be ready, willing and able to work modified hours and shifts due to either general or
seasonal demands like Emergency Warming
