Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA)



The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta is a provincial charitable non-profit who is currently searching for a dynamic and energetic person to join their senior leadership team in the role of Provincial Fund Development Manager.


Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the successful candidate will develop strategies and execute plans to actively cultivate, engage and steward prospects and donors at all levels and leveraging key relationships to achieve SSA’s goals. Building on SSA’s fundraising events and activities, the successful proponent will actively pursue prospects for major donors while promoting and enhancing the public image of the Society. This position will also be responsible for leadership on all aspects of fundraising initiatives as well as report on progress to the ED and the SSA Board of Directors, as required.


Our ideal person to fill this role will have the following qualifications:

  • Post secondary education preferably specializing in fund development, marketing, and/or communications.
  • Minimum 10 years direct and progressive fundraising experience.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate a portfolio of individual, corporate and other donor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute annual development/giving strategic plan.
  • Knowledge and experience in prospect development, donor appeals, donor relations and recognition, event planning, development of communications/promotional materials and activities.
  • Ability to develop and track KPI’s, including donor-related information and fundraising performance.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, verbal, written, and listening skills, detailed oriented.
  • Compose office correspondence including letters, reports, and related documentation on behalf of the ED and/or the organization. This includes preparing, proof reading and editing.
  • Proven ability to plan and coordinate SSA events from start and finish
  • Knowledge of Canadian charity and donation laws and CRA regulations.
  • Demonstrated accuracy in data entry, records managements, and reporting.
  • Previous experience leading teams to achieve development goals would be an asset.
  • Anticipate and provide administrative support to the ED. Assist in the management of the ED’s workload, follow up on meetings, information requests and related issues to support the ED in handling priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent project-management skills with the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and respond promptly to a variety of administrative requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in strategic and budget planning and execution.
  • Exceptional knowledge of non-profit legacy giving, sponsorship, and grant writing.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced team environment and communicate effectively to achieve goals.
  • The ability to effectively communicate the mission, vision, and work of the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills.
  • Exceptional computer skills (including MS office, excel, and relevant business software and database).
  • Ability to engage and grow media presence of the Society and its events.
  • Well versed in marketing and promotion through social media and contact management sites.
  • Strong organizational skills, research and analytical skills.
  • Ensure sensitive and confidential information is managed appropriately.
  • Ability to research, plan and implement SSA events from start and finish.

Successful candidates must present a current, valid Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencement of employment. Travel throughout the Province is essential in this role.
