POSITION FUNCTION:
|
Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Refugees and Migrant Workers Programs, the Family Law Legal Advocate provides direct service, advocacy, representation, summary advice, and referrals to immigrants, refugees and newcomers in the area of family law.
|
QUALIFICATIONS:
|
• Excellent knowledge of family law regulations and policies, as well as an understanding of immigration and poverty law regulations and policies. • Excellent knowledge of legal community and social -legal services available to immigrants, refugees and newcomers. • Strong advocacy and communication skills in English.
|
• Good understanding of newcomer legal issues, concerns, and multicultural issues. • Working knowledge of standard office equipment and software applications (word processing and spreadsheets). |
• Degree in Law or a University Degree coupled with Certificate of Paralegal Program, Conflict Resolution, and Community Development with comparable experience or a combination of education and experience. |
• Strong conflict resolution, advocacy, problem -solving, verbal, and written communication skills; |
• Ability to organize, prioritize and multitask, Attention to detail: ability to work independently with minimal supervision |
• Several years of experience (3 to 5 years) in working as an advocate |

HOURS:
|
35 hours/week
|
STARTING PAY :
|
$38,584 to 47,447 per annum, commensurate with level of experience and qualifications or current MOSAIC Legal Advocate rate |
TERM:
|
Permanent position; six months probationary period
|
