Responsibility:

The Employment Facilitator reports to the Skills Training Manager. The Employment Facilitator will participate in and support the vision and direction of the Skills Department across our Trades Training, Technology Training and Employment Support programming areas, and will focus on obtaining, monitoring and reporting on the work experience and employment placements for Trades Training and Technology Training program participants. The Employment Facilitator will also support ongoing projects as determined by the needs of the Skills Department

  • Employer engagement & recruitment for Trades and Technology
  • Coordinate the work experience placements of participants
  • Coordinate employment and employment support (pre and post program) for participants
  • Lead labour market research and analysis
  • Program administrative duties

Major Responsibilities:

 

Employer Engagement and Recruitment (40%)

  • Implement Momentum’s Employer Engagement Strategy
  • Initiate direct contact with potential employers in Trades Training and Technology Training
  • Maintain existing employer relationships and develop a pool of new employers for skills training programs
  • Create awareness among employers regarding the skills programs
  • Find engaging work experience placements for 100% of program participants
  • Develop employment opportunities and connections for program graduates
  • Establish and maintain quality, long term working relationships with industry associations, unions, Apprenticeship organizations, individual employers, and First Nations in order to facilitate the work experience placement process
  • Attend community/ employment events as an opportunity to connect to employers and the labour market.

 

Employment Coaching and Facilitation (25%)

  • Provide career and employment coaching, including group training and one-to-one support to ensure participants secure employment in the field of training
  • Facilitate workshops in the following subject areas: resume writing, interview preparation, job search, networking, and work culture
  • Provide support to participants during technical training and work experience
  • Maintain existing electronic record keeping systems on participants and employers
  • Assist in the planning, preparation and delivery of special events
  • Complete quarterly program reports in a timely manner
  • Lead and complete the required follow-ups and document accordingly in Mobius (Government database)

Labour Market Research and Analysis (15%)

  • Conduct labour market research regarding in-demand occupations and industry employment outlook
  • Analyze the data collected to inform quality improvements to existing programs, and design of new training programs
  • Maintain an awareness of issues in the broader community/economy affecting participants and the work of the program

 

Participant Support (10%)

  • Support participants’ day-to-day concerns in areas that are affecting their training and employment prospects
  • Maintain familiarity with the scope and variety of employment services and community supports available to participants
  • Make appropriate referrals as required, and follow up regarding outcomes
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with other related agencies and organizations

 

Program administrative duties (10%)

  • Facilitate communication and cooperation between the Skills Department and other programs/departments
  • Attend team meetings, Momentum staff meetings and events
  • Participate in organizational related activities – committees, weekly chores, reception lunch coverage, etc.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of issues affecting participants and our program.
  • Maintain existing record keeping systems on participants and employers, including recording and summarizing of evaluations.
  • Assist in the planning of and preparation for special events.
  • Complete other duties or projects as defined through the business plan, in consultation with the Skills Training Manager and Skills Coordinator

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree, or other relevant combination of experience and education: career development, community economic development, business development, social services or adult education
  • Experience in working with multi-cultural and/or highly barriered participants
  • Strong knowledge of trades and the apprenticeship system
  • Demonstrated ability to network, build and maintain excellent relationships in both one-to-one and group settings
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
  • Tenacious, persistent, professional
  • Demonstrated success with employment outcomes
  • Ability to use your network and the hidden job market to secure employment
  • Able to work independently and take a high degree of initiative, as part of a dynamic team
  • Sound knowledge of computers, MS Office environment, tools to manage data, and social networking
  • Ability to collect and maintain program information (i.e. data collection, documented processes)
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent coordination and analytical skills
  • Must have access to a vehicle
