Join the world’s largest humanitarian network. The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world, is currently seeking a Communications and Event Planning Coordinator.

 

The primary focus of this contract position involves promotional activities to encourage the uptake of a new interactive online resource designed to engage Canadians, particularly Canadian youth and high school teachers, on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and related humanitarian issues.

What will you do

  • Provide input into the draft communications plan and coordinate the rollout of marketing strategies for the new resource in collaboration with the National Office staff
  • Lead beta-testing of the online resource including ensuring all relevant stakeholders are consulted
  • Gather all suggested changes from the beta-testing and work with the design firm to ensure the changes are integrated
  • Create promotional materials and video
  • Link with partners to encourage dissemination
  • Plan and implement in-person and online events to launch the resource
  • Develop pedagogical material for our humanitarian education program
  • Develop instructional materials for teachers to use the resource in the classroom
  • Conduct live and online demonstrations of the new online resource
  • Implement additional tasks as identified

 

What you bring to the organisation

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Communications, Education, International Law, International Relations/Development, Political Science, or related field)
  • Two years of job-related experience
  • Excellent written and communication skills in English (French is an asset)
  • Strong organisational skills and demonstrated skills in project management and event organizing
  • Initiative and innovation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media as well as familiarity working on websites
  • Good command of communication/presentation software
  • A proven interest in both humanitarian and/or international and public engagement
  • Able to engage and manage a range of audiences and stakeholders
  • Experience working within a team setting

 

 

You will stand out if you have

  • An understanding of International Humanitarian Law
  • A working level understanding of the work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • An understanding of provincial secondary and/or post secondary education systems
  • International humanitarian or development experience
  • Experience working within teams or networks at the provincial or national level
