Job Description

Burnaby MoreSports Society (BMS) is a registered charity providing free after-school sports programs for underserved children and youth. BMS is growing steadily each year and plans to be serving up to 500 youngsters at 8 school locations in Burnaby in 2019-20. BMS is recruiting a Program Coordinator who will be responsible for the successful delivery of high-quality recreational sports programs for children and youth in a safe, structured and supportive environment at all locations.

 

The Program Coordinator works with the Executive Director and program staff to implement quality programming and to promote BMS activities in Burnaby. The Program Coordinator is responsible for: Planning and supervising weekly programs and seasonal events; training and supervising program staff and volunteers; evaluating program performance and reporting program metrics; maintaining relations with community partners; administering program records; and managing program equipment/supplies.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position would meet all of these criteria:

  • 3-5 years of experience planning and leading community sports programs for children and youth
  • Good practical knowledge of all core program sports: basketball, handball and soccer
  • Strong team-building skills and adaptive management strategies
  • Strong management skills, exercised with empathy, patience and respect
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Broad knowledge of child development, physical literacy, behaviour management, health and safety
  • Significant experience working with at-risk children and/or youth
  • Applied knowledge of social and emotional learning practices
  • Cultural and social sensitivity that embraces diversity and multiculturalism
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
  • Certified in emergency child first aid with CPR
  • Criminal record check in place for working with vulnerable children
  • Certified in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) and Quest 2 Assessment

Terms & Conditions

This is a regular, part-time (0.63 FTE) position based on an average of 30 hours/week for 38 weeks/year. Evening and weekend work may be required occasionally for meetings and seasonal events. The pay scale is $22-27/hour based on qualifications and experience, and is supplemented by 4% vacation pay.
