Job Summary & Requirements:


In this key role, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager is responsible for developing and leading a team through a period of significant challenge and change. The work of the team spans all aspects of wildlife care, from admission to release. The team is comprised of an Assistant Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager, Senior Wildlife Rehabilitators, Wildlife Rehabilitators, Interns and Volunteers. He/she will also liaise with other Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) departments and external organizations to support the overall goals and strategies of TWC.


Main Accountabilities:


  • Develops, implements, and monitors an ongoing training program with all staff and volunteers
  • Develops and enables Wildlife Rehabilitation team through ongoing proactive communication, training, educational updates, consultation, recognition, constructive feedback and annual performance evaluations; makes final decisions on personnel issues
  • Ensures a positive, professional, and safe working environment at all times; with a focus on both human and animal safety
  • Develops, implements, and monitors a process to ensure all policies and procedures are maintained, trained, and communicated to the team.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager act as liaison between Wildlife Rehabilitation and other TWC departments, centre management, and external organizations
  • Maintains wildlife rehabilitation department budget and makes recommendations regarding staffing and resources
  • Assists with fundraising and public relations activities as needed.



Job Qualifications:



  • University or college degree.
  • Workshops, seminars, certifications or other formal management or leadership training



  • Minimum 5 years of successful team leadership experience
  • Previous successful experience leading both staff and volunteers
  • Experience should include leading through periods of change
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Experience within a licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre or other animal facility an asset



  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to influence with integrity and work collaboratively across the organization and with external parties
  • Strong leadership skills with passion for developing and enabling the team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and external organizations/individuals
  • Motivated self-starter, with ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Basic proficiency at Computer skills
  • Strong knowledge of Southern Ontario’s wildlife including identification and natural history an asset
  • Experience working or volunteering in wildlife rehabilitation an asset
