Position Summary:

Pacific Community Resources Society requires an experienced leader to work as part our settlement program supporting newcomer youth. This position will be responsible for supervising a team of two (2) youth outreach settlement workers who work specifically with vulnerable newcomer youth to connect them to positive supports and resources in the community. This position requires a high level of partnership, stakeholder liaising, and community engagement skills.

 

The successful applicant will have a high-level understanding of the settlement needs of newcomers, in-depth knowledge of the settlement process and services, and have a solid understanding of trauma-informed practice.  The supervisor will have experience in leadership/supervision and a sound understanding of PCRS values and beliefs.  The successful candidate will be skilled and experienced in connecting with diverse communities.

 

The successful applicant will bring the leadership experience and knowledge to support a team and will develop and facilitate workshops on topics relevant to the needs of newcomer youth as needed.  Applicants should have experience being a part of multidisciplinary care teams and have a strong background in collaborative planning.

 

Hours are based on a flexible schedule as required but will primarily cover early afternoon until mid-evening as there may be a need for earlier or later hours depending upon circumstances; offering support at key times a day and/or evening, and coordinating others to assist when the youth outreach settlement works is not available. This term position may vary between ten to eighteen months.

 

Academic and Job Experience Required:

  • B.A. BSW, CYCC diploma, plus five years of related experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Three years supervisory experience in a related setting

  

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Standard first aid certificate and CPR
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with business insurance
  • Use of own vehicle (with reimbursement)
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate
  • Sound judgement and effective interpersonal skills
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong understanding of newcomers’ needs and strategies to support them with integration and settlement
  • Knowledge of community resources and services for newcomer youth available in SurreyB

Desired Requirements:

  • Fluency in a secondary language
  • Clear understanding of trauma informed practice
  • Cultural competency training
  • Non-violence crisis intervention training
  • Experience working with settlement service systems (i.e. settlement programs, IRCC, iCare System, etc.)

Salary Range:     $26.20/hour – $29.87/hour, Plus term benefits (Paid by employer)
