Oak and Orca Bioregional School is currently seeking an administrative assistant to work at Victoria location. Our school community is a vibrant, loving, complex and utterly unique workplace that combines the vibes of a nonprofit with the vibes of a certified alternative school.  The Administrative Assistant is responsible for maintaining the public face of the organization and performing a variety of administrative and clerical services that facilitate the schools operation.

We are committed to providing quality programs with an environmental perspective and choices for children. We provide programs both to home schooling children all over BC and to students who attend our small school site in Victoria. Teachers work with students to help them learn how to learn, encouraging them to be self-directed and self-motivated. We value ecological literacy and a holistic view of education. Ability to work with a diversity of ages is key, as our programs include home-learners from kindergarten to high school and on-site students ages 3 to 18.  While the majority of the job is not working with children, everyone on-site interacts with children in some way.  An interest in working with children is important.

Staff members work together as a community. In addition to their day to day tasks, our staff fill in for others as needed, assist with basic school maintenance and clean-up, and take responsibility for programs such before and after school care, fundraising, community projects, and field trips.  An interest in working with children and teens is required.  All staff are required to model a bioregional lifestyle and bike, bus or walk to work.

The ideal candidate will be familiar and proficient with technology, spreadsheets, and processing detailed information as well as an ability to enter and organize records and detailed information from various sources into a database.  Confidential information will be handled and the candidate must be sensitive and knowledgable of privacy laws and common sense.  The candidate would have strong organizational skills and an effortless attention to detail.  This position requires a good memory, and the ability to track information from various sources over time.  The candidate must be comfortable dealing with the public as well as clients and potential clients of the organization including parents and children.  Good communication skills are an asset including written and verbal skills.
