Students are supported to attend classes, participate in course work, engage in extra-curricular activities, social events, to make social connections, and to develop career interests and networks of friends. In essence to be a successful typical post-secondary student.

The ability to be a good listener, to be critically reflective of your own work, and to problem solve creatively alone and with co-workers are critical. Prior knowledge or experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is NOT essential. If the applicant has prior experience in this area they will be asked to demonstrate how their work resulted in increased independence, connections to others, and broader opportunities for the individual(s) they supported.

Applicants with a demonstrated passion for the inclusion of marginalized populations will be given preference.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Facilitate mutually valued reciprocal relationships between students and other members of the student body and campus community.

  • Meet on a regular basis with individual students to modify and adapt course and in class material, and to assist the student to identify their course of study and career path.

  • Support the campus community to include the students as valued individuals in ways which are natural and typical of any student experience.

  • Support the student to become independent and comfortable making decisions.

  • Liaise with the students' families and/or other support staff in the student's network.

  • Identify modifications which may be required for the student in their courses, to participate in class, or to be successful in their employment.

  • Facilitate a collaborative work environment at the individual student's place of employment.

The successful applicant must be motivated to create inclusive communities, show initiative, possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and to be able to work in a team as well as independently under the guidance of a senior facilitator. Criminal record check required.
