The Advisor Internal Communications is an energetic, innovative individual who is passionate about communicating the excellent efforts of the Canadian Red Cross. Reporting to the Senior Director Internal Communications, the successful candidate will work with PMO Change Management team to devise and implement an internal communications strategy to increase awareness and engagement for the PMO projects among staff and volunteers. The communications Adviser will collaborate with other internal stakeholders to create a variety of tools and tactics to reach desired audiences across the country.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Support PMO Change Management team with the creation and implementation of communication strategies and plans to increase internal awareness and engagement.
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues and other partners to ensure resources are effectively utilized and that the strategies and messaging developed are consistent with Society-wide communications plans and initiatives.
  • Align communications practices and procedures to support the organization’s cultural evolution.
  • Develop dynamic and creative ways to keep employees informed of the project’s activities and engaged in the process, particularly by creating two-way communication channels.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of communications channels, identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness, and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor and manage the project inbox, logging, tracking, and reporting communications coming into the project inbox.
  • Identify key messages based on project scope, objectives, change impacts, and change strategy.
  • Research, develop, write, proof-read, and support the development of communications tools such as reports, quarterly or annual reviews, presentations, brochures, newsletters, backgrounders, fact sheets, frequently asked questions (FAQs), videos, infographics, signage, etc.
  • Implement the communication plan in collaboration with all stakeholders.
  • Contribute in organizing information sessions, workshops, and events to introduce and communicate changes.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices pertaining to volunteer and employee engagement, and make recommendations for audience-specific strategy, content and reach.
  • Optimize and develop indicators to measure the impact of internal communication strategies in terms of volunteer and staff understanding and engagement.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or Political Science and at least 5-7 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience
  • Excellent written and oral proficiency in English (Proficiency in French is an asset)
  • Understanding of internal communications principles and practices
  • Demonstrated experience with writing and editing materials to reach a variety of audiences
  • Experience with communicating to volunteers is an asset
  • Experience preparing a variety of communications products and key messaging through both traditional and social media channels
  • Experience providing strategic communications advice
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience delivering communication services and messaging to achieve change in a complex environment
  • Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills with attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Office 365 and familiarity with software and related tools for professional desktop publishing, photo/video editing, and creating, managing, monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of communicational content.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build on-going relationships with diverse groups of volunteers and employees across the Society.
  • Ability to support events through the creation of presentations and other communication tools within given timelines, report on their status and measure outcomes with key performance indicators
  • Demonstrated capacity for critical thinking and problem solving
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment, as well as work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good sense of organization and planning
  • Experience in event planning is an asset
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a strong commitment to working within a team environment
  • Knowledge of Change Management methodologies, specially Prosci, is an asset

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • The majority of the work is performed in an office environment.

 

  • Domestic travel may be required.
  •
