Hours & Days: Must be able to work all shifts – not necessarily every day of the week. Shift hours are: 7am to 2:30pm, 2pm to 9:30pm, 3:30pm to 11:00pm, & 10:30pm to 7:30am


Salary & Compensation:  $24.38 to 26.42/hr+ 9.6% on each hour worked in lieu of statutory holiday.  Employee paid benefit package.



The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.


Peggy’s Place is a harm reduction transition house for abused women.


Job Summary:

In accordance with The Kettle Society values, The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing direction and support to housing residents with daily social, emotional, and life skills assistance in line with established care plan procedures.



  • Certificate in Community Social Service – or Mental Health related
  • 2 years of experience in a mental health setting including experience with women's shelters or transition homes or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Valid Emergency First Aid - Community Care
  • FoodSafe Level 1 certificate

Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to work with people with mental illness, hoarders, homeless at risk and addictions
  • Understanding of the cycle of abuse
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with tenants
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in tenants
  • Have an understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and concurrent disorders including theories and methods
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Awareness of typical side effects of psychotropic medications that are commonly used in the client population
  • Ability to work with bed bug protocol and assist tenants in management of pests
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to undertake meal prep and cooking duties, followed by clean up
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
