What you’ll do

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) has an exciting opportunity for a detail oriented and proactive Philanthropy Assistant to join our Principal Gifts fundraising team! This is a fantastic role for an emerging fundraising professional who is interested in learning about major gift fundraising!


Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy this role would be responsible for:

  • Supporting the fundraising activities of the Director, Philanthropy by coordinating donor meetings, preparing briefing and debriefing notes, ensuring actions identified in meetings are followed up on, and creating/preparing materials for meetings
  • Preparing a variety of written correspondence (e.g, letters, emails, reports) for donors
  • Reviewing donor prospects lists and making recommendations on next steps and actions that could advance the donor relationship
  • Assisting in the coordination of personalized stewardship and recognition activities related to the Director’s portfolio, including developing recognition materials, coordinating impact reports, organizing donor meetings, and reviewing mailing lists;
  • Providing administrative support for the Director, Philanthropy including managing calendaring, scheduling appointments, ordering supplies, maintain department budget
  • Maintaining donor records in Raiser’s Edge database (RE); proactively inputting notes and actions into RE and ensuring information/actions are brought forward as needed



What you bring

You are a proactive self-starter and are eager to learn about major gift fundraising. You have a natural intuition for how to balance diverse and competing priorities and are excellent at keeping details organized. These traits are complemented by a diploma or certificate in a related discipline (e.g. business, marketing, fundraising, administration) and a minimum 2 years of relevant experience (or the equivalent combination of related skills and experience). Experience working for a not-for-profit or working as part of a philanthropy team is a definite asset.


In addition to the qualifications, our ideal candidate has:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with database administration; Raiser’s Edge experience is an asset
  • Excellent communications skills with an ability to draft, proof, and edit a range of written materials
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion
  • Well developed time management and organization skills with an ability to efficiently manage a diverse range of assignments while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Strong team player with an ability to work collaboratively as well as autonomously
