Position Title: Program Leader for the Kids First Program

Pay rate: $13.85 - $18.00 (plus 10.67% in lieu of benefits) depending on experience
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 2:00pm to 5:30pm during the school year. 
Contract position starting mid-September 2019 and ending late June 2020.

*Must be available for stated days of the program during the regular school year. Possible additional hours available on the other two days of the week and during school breaks. 

 

An exciting opportunity to support vulnerable elementary and secondary students after school with the Vancouver Board of Education. Our large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to over 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and over 2,000 adults in adult education programs. Serving our diverse district in 110 facility sites, our programs and services are designed to address both complex challenges and extraordinary opportunities. 

 

Kids First is an after-school program that focuses on academic, social and behavioral skills.These skills are taught through a variety of activities such as tutoring, baking/cooking, gym games, crafts, etc. Kids First is a grant funded referral-based program at Thunderbird Elementary School.  The program runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.

You will provide outstanding leadership to implement social recreational programming during the out of school time. Your effective communication and organizational skills will assist the Community Schools Team to provide excellent service to students in the community.

The Community Schools Hub and Out of School Time programs offered vary across the district. As a Kids First Program Leader for the Van Tech Hub, you would work in a team to help coordinate daily activities for the participants, problems solve with children, work with other staff and volunteers, liaise with teachers and parents. The Program Leader will also work with volunteers to encourage and mentor them on ways to connect with participants.

 

Qualifications
· Minimum grade 12 diploma requirement
· Previous experience working with large groups of children
· Ability to organize and supervise program activities and intervene in crisis situations to ensure the safety of program participants
· Experience working in a team setting
· Creative and resourceful
· Previous experience working with groups of children grades 1-7
· Previous experience working with volunteers
· Display good leadership qualities
· Great organizational skills
Asset:
· Hold a valid First Aid certificate
· Hold a Food Safe certificate

 

Commencement of employment is conditional upon a successful criminal records check ($28 fee).
