Job Description:
An exciting opportunity to support vulnerable elementary and secondary students after school with the Vancouver Board of Education. Our large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to over 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and over 2,000 adults in adult education programs. Serving our diverse district in 110 facility sites, our programs and services are designed to address both complex challenges and extraordinary opportunities.
You will be part of the Van Tech Community Schools Team working to provide children with after-school programming that includes a safe and structured environment, healthy physical activity, skill-building activities such as cooking, sports, arts and crafts or healthy snacks.
You work closely with the Community Schools Programmer to ensure that the program is implemented in a physically and emotionally safe environment and aligns with the program goals. Your high energy, creativity and effective communication and organizational skills will assist the Community Schools Team to provide excellent service to students in the community.
The Van Tech Family of Schools include Queen Alexandra Elementary, Begbie Elementary, Thunderbird Elementary, Maquinna Elementary, Mount Pleasant Elementary, Secord Elementary, Queen Victoria Annex, and Van Tech Secondary.

 

Qualifications:
Minimum 1-year experience working with children in a recreational setting
Demonstrated proficiency in delivery of children’s programs: examples include science, sports, arts and crafts, cooking, reading and/or games
Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
Current first aid and CPR certification or willing to obtain

 

Hours:
The job is approximately 6-18 hours per week (some flexibility) from 2:30pm-5:00pm (plus additional planning and meeting hours) during the regular school year. Commencement of employment is conditional upon a successful criminal records check ($28 fee). This position offers an hourly wage of $13.85 - $18.00 (plus 10.67% in lieu of benefits) depending on experience.
