The Mustard Seed provides basic services—food, clothing and housing, and support services—education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta and British Columbia.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the HR Business Partner—Central Services, the position will handle recruitment from casual front line to technical full-time positions in Alberta and British Columbia achieving staffing objectives in multiple departments or cities. This role works closely with two business partners in Edmonton, handles highly confidential personal information, and requires flexibility to manage high volumes of recruitment during the year. Due to the nature of this position, occasional to frequent travel will be required within Alberta between Edmonton and Red Deer. Infrequent travel to Calgary, Alberta and Kamloops, British Columbia may also be required.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and support the recruitment lifecycle for all business units—develop strategic recruitment plans by studying organization goals and objectives
  • Human Resources Business Partners will drive the workflow of recruitment
  • Meeting with hiring managers to discuss needs, evaluate jobs, develop job descriptions—determines applicant requirements by studying job description and job qualifications
  • Coordinate interviews with hiring managers with the help of an Administrative Assistant and arrange community tours
  • Build applicant sources by contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, and internet sites
  • Build strong relationships with the business units and develop a clear understanding of the different business lines and position requirements
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners on to proactively forecast workforce needs and conduct succession planning for both short-term and long-term
  • Schedule and attend job fairs or other employment social networking events
  • Coordinate hiring fairs in Edmonton for seasonal recruitment (e.g. Winter Warming)
  • Improve organization attractiveness by recommending new policies and practices to HR Business Partners, monitor compensation practices from other agencies, seek ways to improve internal retention
  • Monitor hiring process to assure conformity to recruitment policies and procedure, advise managers on relevant legislation and corporate standards, and provide training on interviewing and hiring best practices to supervisors or managers
  • Attract applicants through job advertisements, contacting recruiters, using social media and job search engines
  • With the support of HR Business Partners, implement innovative sourcing strategies and recruiting campaigns that will maintain a pipeline of strong candidates for current and future positions
  • Work collaboratively with hiring managers to ensure successful on-boarding of new hires
  • Interview applicants alongside hiring managers, analyze responses, verify references, follow-up with criminal record checks, ensure candidates qualifications align with job requirements
  • Facilitate and lead New Hire Orientations
  • Achieves organizational goals in partnership with Human Resources department to reduce employee turnover, increase retention, and cultivate culture
  • Provide back-up to HR Coordinators in Calgary and Edmonton as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in human resources or business; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Designations of Certified Professional Human Resources or Registered Professional Recruiter is a strong asset
  • Minimum 3 years’ of high volume recruitment experience is required
  • Familiarity with social media for recruiting purposes is an asset
  • Proven knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, and training, compensation and Applicant Tracking System tools
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with an understanding of confidentiality, provincial labour standards, and recruitment best practices is essential
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact effectively with staff at all levels
  • Flexible and adaptable, with a demonstrated ability to self-manage and prioritize in a rapidly changing, operationally-focused environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and human resources information systems

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This is a permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm in Edmonton. Evenings may be required on occasion.
  • Office setting, extended computer use, sitting, reaching, standing, minimal lifting and walking
  • Mental effort: moderate, periods of high volume workload
  • Fast paced and demanding work environment
  • Occasional to frequent travel within Edmonton and Red Deer will be expected. Infrequent travel to Calgary, Alberta and Kamloops, British Columbia may also be required.
