Job Description

Burnaby MoreSports Society (BMS) is a registered charity providing free after-school sports programs to elementary school children in underprivileged communities. BMS is seeking motivated Program Leaders who can thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy work environment, working with senior staff to deliver high-quality sports programs for children and youth in Burnaby.

 

The Program Leader is responsible for supervising children (ages 6-12), implementing sports lesson plans, supporting youth volunteers and leadership students, liaising with school staff/parents, and providing a safe, supportive environment for all participants. The Program Leader will be flexible, while working within established structures and routines to consistently meet program objectives.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position would meet all of these criteria:

  • Experience planning and leading activities for groups of children in a recreational sports setting
  • Basic practical knowledge of program sports (i.e., basketball, handball, floor hockey, and soccer)
  • Working knowledge of child development, physical literacy, behaviour management, health and safety, with counselling experience an asset
  • Strong group management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Cultural and social sensitivity that embraces diversity and multiculturalism
  • Certified in emergency child first aid with CPR (or willing to certify)
  • Criminal record check in place for working with vulnerable children
  • Certified in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)
  • Fluent in English, with second language capabilities an asset

Terms & Conditions

This is a part-time contract position working weekday shifts from 2:30-5:30pm, for 3-9 hours per week at multiple school locations on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The hourly wage starts at $16.08 per hour + 4% vacation pay. The position will run from late September to early December and may extend into the winter months.
