The Open Door Group Board of Directors is currently seeking candidates for Board Directors starting in September 2019 for a minimum term of one year. This is a governance board, with active committees that take on project based tasks as needed from to time. Board Directors play a critical role in supporting the ongoing sustainability of Open Door Group as a charitable and enterprising non-profit organization that seeks to support all individuals in achieving personal success and finding meaningful employment.

Open Door Group is a charitable non-profit providing person-centered employment services and innovative leisure programs. We operate on the fundamental belief that all individuals have the right and the ability to succeed. We specialize in supporting persons with disabilities and individuals facing multiple barriers to employment. 

We currently serve communities throughout the province of BC. Our programs are funded by the BC Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation, Interior Health Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. 

Open Door Group is a CARF-Accredited organization and a certified Great Place to Work employer.


Board Directors are responsible for:

  • Advancing the purpose, reputation and brand of the Society
  • Ensuring Open Door Group’s continued financial integrity and financial sustainability
  • Regularly assessing the Board’s performance and playing a key role in: strategic development, performance measurement, risk management and board governance
  • Attending regular meetings of the Board of Directors at Open Door Group’s corporate office in Vancouver. Board members residing outside of the Lower Mainland may attend meetings by video-conference or teleconference.
  • Providing leadership to board committees. Each board director is expected to serve as an active, ongoing member of at least one committee.
  • Being accessible for personal contact in between board meetings via email correspondence and phone calls.


We are seeking applicants who are passionate about our mission of “opening doors to lifelong learning and career success," and who are able to represent the diversity of the communities we serve inclusive of gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability and socio-economic backgrounds.

We encourage all interested individuals to apply and are particularly interested in meeting professionals with strategic and analytical skills, ability to look at the “big picture” and expertise in one of the following four areas:

  • Communications, Marketing, Public Relations and Media Relations
  • Fundraising and Resource Development
  • Government Relations
  • Healthcare and/or Advocacy for individuals with employment barriers
