Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) is seeking an Access to Justice (A2J) Services Analyst to help develop online tools that increase access to justice. The A2J Services Analyst will support CLEO’s work developing online guided interviews. The guided interviews provide public legal information and help people to complete court forms, tribunal applications, and other documents.

 

About CLEO

 

CLEO is a specialty community legal clinic that develops clear, accurate and practical legal rights education and information to help people understand and exercise their legal rights. We focus on providing information to people who face barriers to accessing the justice system through print publications, online resources and legal information training.

 

CLEO is expanding a collection of online guided interviews to help Ontarians address legal needs in the areas of family law and poverty law (social assistance and housing, for example). The guided interviews enable people to access tailored legal information and complete court forms, tribunal applications, and other documents. Job Purpose

 

The A2J Services Analyst will work closely with a small project team to design, prepare content for, and aid in building online interactive tools called A2J Guided Interviews. These interviews are created in an easy-to-use software called A2J Author that aids users in completing document assembly processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Analyze processes for completing forms, applying for service, and finding services or information
  • Drafting interview questions that collect the information required, using a literacy task complexity analysis and plain language style guide
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplined team to design and test A2J Guided Interviews for both poverty law and family law
  • Prepare clear language instructions for software programmers
  • Check A2J Guided Interviews changes, made by software programmers or other members of the team, against instructions to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Plan and execute test scenarios to assess usability and identify errors for A2J Guided Interviews
  • Learn A2J Author software to make simple edits to  A2J Guided Interviews, including drafting and ordering questions
  • Annotate output templates (show where interview answers should appear) and identify needs for instructions and public legal information in each guided interview question
  • Support the development of training materials such as video, PowerPoint slides and tip sheets

 

Job Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

 

CLEO seeks a candidate who has the ability and drive to succeed in an analyst position in the non-profit sector. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to analyze a complex process and break it down into manageable pieces
  • Proficiency in drafting questions using a style guide
  • Excellent writing and editing, attention to detail
  • Strong reading comprehension ability

 

Preferred qualifications also include:

  • Aptitude for learning and working with new software
  • Law and practice knowledge of family law, poverty law, wills and estates or small claims
  • Prior web design, information technology system, programming, or support experience

 

No prior experience with A2J Author is required or expected. Preference will be given to candidates with experiences demonstrating the ability to explain complicated ideas to a general audience, basic technical abilities, and the ability to work independently. Availability to start work right away will be considered an asset.

 

This is a fulltime contract position starting as soon as possible and concluding on March 31, 2020, with the possibility of an extension. The A2J Service Analyst will be paid an annual salary of $45,000 - $55,000 (benefits not provided), depending on professional experience and test results.
