  • Recruit volunteers to Shelter from the local community
  • Interview, screen and select volunteers based on the individual’s suitability and commitment to the program
  • Organize training for new volunteers according to established program procedures
  • Provide on-the-job training for volunteers with appropriate levels of supervision
  • Develop and organize social/training sessions in order to further develop commitment to the mandate of the Shelter and knowledge of women’s issues
  • Monitor volunteer performance and evaluate on a bi-annual schedule
  • Deploy and develop volunteers in areas of expertise as determined by Shelter needs
  • Ensure volunteer commitment to client confidentiality through strict adherence to the Confidentiality of Information and Volunteer Contract
  • Submit monthly program statistics
  • Submit monthly timesheet
  • Provide educational literature for in-house volunteers
  • Schedule volunteer hours as required to best support clients and staff
  • Maintain volunteer files including record of hours and extent of involvement
  • Expand funds allocated to the Volunteer budget according to established procedures

 

  • Claim overtime according to established procedures
  • Utilize petty cash funds according to established procedures
  • Claim authorized travel expenses according to established procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Volunteer Management Sector Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience and knowledge of non-profit agencies and Volunteer Boards of Directors
  • Working knowledge of word processing
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to operate within an open style of management
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of community resources with the ability to liaise in a professional and effective manner while facilitating good working relationships
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
