The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth is looking for dynamic individuals to join our Before and After school Staff Team. We are hiring for a number of positions to support our In-school programming at a number of locations.

In joining the YMCA you will become part of a dedicated network of individuals with great passion for providing a holistic support to the communities in which we serve.  Since 1853 the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth has been connecting Nova Scotians to build healthy communities.  As a non-profit charity we provide vital services, including Health, Employment, Childcare/Camps, Immigrant Services, and Youth Development.    

 

The Opportunity

YMCA Before and After school staff are responsible for providing a safe, positive, inclusive environment for kids.  Specifically you will: 

  • Bring the fun-factor while providing confidence building opportunities for youth
  • Ensure quality, inclusive, meaningful programming for school-age youth
  • Serve as role model and mentor for children/youth participants
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants and families
  • Complete necessary paperwork and safety-related tasks

 

Qualifications

As an energetic, creative programmer, you bring:

  • Demonstrated success in plan/organize games, sports, arts, crafts, cultural activities, lead field trips, etc.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR training. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training
