THE POSITION

As a Peer Support Worker within the Addictions and Mental Health department, you will provide one-on-one and group peer support in the areas of addictions and/or mental health.  Peer Support Workers connect with clients across programs, facilitate our Hopeful Journeys group, participate in delivery of Continuing Care/Aftercare services, and offer their supports on an outreach basis.  Your initial assignment will be within our Residential Withdrawal Management and Treatment program.

Drawing on your own personal lived experience with addictions and mental health, you will:

  • Assist and mentor consumers as they consider and determine unique goals and objectives
  • Support individuals by offering hope of recovery from addictions and/or mental health challenges
  • Facilitate connection to ongoing services and supports post-residential stay
  • Provide activities, support and linkages that help to improve consumers’ quality of life and ability to cope with daily stressors

 

Annual salary: $36,134 plus shift premiums and benefits

Hours of work: Monday to Friday; primarily days with some evening work

Start date: as soon as possible

 

TO APPLY, YOU MUST:

  • Have lived experience using the Substance Use and/or Mental Health system
  • Have a college diploma in the Human/Social Services field
  • Be able to be a positive role model
  • Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Be able to manage frequent exposure to vicarious trauma
