Job Title: Aboriginal Liaison


Location: Surrey Pretrial Services Centre, Surrey BC

 

Working within a Correctional Centre, the Aboriginal Liaison will be responsible for providing cultural programs and assisting the Aboriginal inmate population in developing release plans and matters pertaining to community integration. The position is currently full-time, 35 hours per week, but could consider part-time hours and there is some flexibility regarding the days of work. The Aboriginal Liaison will work closely with the correctional and program staff to ensure a collaborative service is being provided to the men, encompassing all areas of Aboriginal culture and community support.

 

Qualifications:

 

A thorough understanding of Aboriginal culture
A minimum of two years post secondary education in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Experience working with Aboriginal Populations
Experience working in a Correctional Centre an asset
Experience working in Social Services an asset
Criminal record check

 

Additional Skills:

 

Knowledge of substance abuse, mental health and poverty issues
Knowledge of community resources and supports for Aboriginal men
Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
Good communication, both written and verbal
Understanding of the social services field
