Position Type: Full-time, 6 month contract (with option to renew

(37.5 - 45 hours/week, with some evenings and weekends)

About the Organization: Founded in 2014, the Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta (EDSNA) is a charitable organization providing support to individuals dealing with eating disorders, as well as their caregivers, in the province of Alberta. EDSNA’s vision is that no one should have to face an eating disorder alone.  This organization is committed to inspiring hope, reducing stigma, raising awareness, building connections, and offering meaningful support at all stages of recovery


Summary of Primary Job Function:

This position is responsible for executing major goals and objectives for the organization, developed in cooperation with the Director of Public Awareness and Client Services, and/or by the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate provides leadership, direction, and guidance of the organization’s activities; they analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of all organization operations. This individual coordinates major activities with the assistance of volunteers (as necessary), and supports awareness partnerships. They also represent the organization to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders and supporters, the media and the general public. 


The scope of this role is broad- the individual in this role is intrinsically involved in maintaining positive social perception of the organization, occupying various roles, and is largely responsible for the on-going management of EDSNA. You will need to be able to rely on the direction from the Board of Directors, and leverage the power of volunteers and stakeholders, to create work life balance and to grow EDSNA.




General Responsibilities Include:

  • To be thoroughly committed to EDSNA’s mission and vision, wherein “no one in Alberta will have to face an eating disorder alone”
  • Direct and oversee short and long term plans 
  • Be willing to take on tasks and responsibilities as needed, including other duties not specified (within reason)


  • Ensure compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the organization’s role as a non-profit agency. 
  • Adhere to funding contract requirements for grant funding including, but not limited to: the preparation of reports, supporting documents, phone and email correspondence, organization and hosting of grant-mandated events such as capacity building workshops and conferences
  • Instigate and participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and training processes of all levels of volunteers and facilitators
  • Act as the first line of contact for EDSNA’s email and phone inquiries from clients, other community organizations, and health professionals, including urgent mental health inquiries
  • Assist with and/or oversee general administrative/functional duties including web updates and maintenance, social media posts, and maintaining an effective and cost-efficient office environment 

Finance & Fundraising

  • Maintain full awareness of the complete financial, statistical and accounting records of the organization; ensure that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved, and control operating expenses within the budget.
  • Create budgets for specific projects, with annual budget and goals in mind
  • Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion; investigate potential additional and/or alternate revenue streams
  • Write and submit grant applications in both the public and private sector to ensure continued revenue for the organization 

Programming & Public Awareness

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence; seek to fill gaps in care for the population, and recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goal. 
  • Prepare and communicate educational presentations to interested parties and organizations
  • Work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds to accomplish current and future programming and awareness projects, and ongoing client support
  • Assist in the planning and coordinating of Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW)






  • A post-secondary education in a related field such as business administration, social work, psychology, public health, or equivalent experience.
  • A track record of exceeding expectations in programs and projects; action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people; acts with integrity, and maintains a positive attitude
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Expertise in website editing and office applications, including Microsoft Office Suite programs and Google Drive.
  • Experience in a defined role within a charity or non-profit organization is preferred
  • Class 5 Driver’s License is an asset

Location: Edmonton, AB (may require some travel)
