Our Counselling Services Program is a Social Enterprise division of FSGV, providing community counselling with a range of fee options based on income and service type. Net proceeds from this service go back into providing subsidized counselling and supporting other FSGV programs that are building stronger families, supporting youth in overcoming homelessness, ending violence against women, children and seniors, and developing more inclusive communities. HERE’S WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER

The Counsellor is responsible for providing counselling to adults, children, youth and families in the Counselling Program (including CVAP, RHAP & WorkBC clients)

YOUR KEY CONTRIBUTIONS

  1. Provide counselling to individuals, couples, and/or families and children using evidence based, client-centered, and trauma informed models and approaches
  2. Assess client needs (bio-psycho-social) and develop an appropriate treatment plan in collaboration with the client.
  3. Integrate knowledge of therapeutic models and techniques into practice
  4. Understand and engage with clients from a wide variety of socioeconomic, educational and ethno-cultural backgrounds
  5. Develop and maintain effective collegial relationships
  6. Maintain personal and professional integrity and boundaries and follow best practices and ethical principles
  7. Develop competence and an approach that acknowledges diversity
  8. Make referrals as needed to other resources, and liaise with other programs or resources providing case management when needed.
  9. Lead group counselling sessions and workshops
  10. Use, or have the aptitude or proficiency to use, Jane App – a client case and file management system for all case documentation, session notes, billing and scheduling.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

Education:      

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or related field
  • Must be registered with a professional body in the province of BC (e.g. RCC, CCC, RSW, RPsych, etc)
  • Registration with CVAP, ICBC, or other counselling funding programs is an asset
  • Training or certification in trauma-informed therapy (EMDR, Somatic approaches), Marriage & Family Counselling, or Play/Art Therapy also an asset

 

Experience:     

  • At least three years of related experience providing counselling for individuals, couples, families and/or children

Additional qualifications of interest:

  • Training or certification in trauma-informed therapy (EMDR, Somatic approaches), Marriage & Family Counselling, or Play/Art Therapy also an asset
  • Registration with CVAP, ICBC, or other counselling funding programs is an asset

Other Information:

  • Successful completion of criminal record check is a condition of employment
  • Work hours: availability for a mix of hours that must include evening and/or weekend hours
  • Office location: Able to work at one or more of our three locations: Vancouver (Broadway/Commercial), New Westminster (321 6th St.), and/or Richmond (Caring Place/Minoru Blvd)

We are a client-focused agency, where our first priority is the client, their experience, and their wellbeing. FSGV provides counsellors with an ideal work environment where you can focus on delivering therapeutic services in a supportive team environment, without the need to promote or advertise, rent space, or deal with other expenses and business licenses and reporting.

 

Position types:  Part-time regular (17.5 hours or more per week), Part-time hourly, or possible Full-time regular, 35 hours per week (if across 2 sites or in New Westminster)

  • Regular staff (FT/PT): scheduled shifts & participate in pension and benefits program
  • Part-time hourly: flexible shifts with guaranteed minimum paid hours per shift

Compensation: Starting wage of $29.04 per hour

 

*Benefits: FSGV provides a comprehensive compensation package, with pension and generous extended health benefits for our regular staff.

 

Supervision: Individual and group supervision sessions, based on session hours per month (paid time)

 

Start Date: ASAP    Closing date: when filled
