POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Accountable for the management and provision of a high quality program providing business skills training, personalized business advise, mentoring, practical business resources and a supportive community to help women business owners gain the skills, mindset, financing and networks they need to realize their business potential. Ensures the program is designed to provide innovative ways to support women entrepreneurs and close gaps that are barriers to success. Oversees the full Women’s Enterprise Centre including case management, fund reporting, budget allocation and management of staff.

  • Develops and manages the successful delivery of all aspects of the Women’s Enterprise Centre including program design, planning, development, staffing, participant recruitment, budgeting, operations, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, communications, and evaluation;
  • Develops and implements innovative programs to advance women’s opportunities to start and grow their businesses, with a focus on women who face systemic barriers;
  • Ensures program outcomes are achieved according to set targets and quality standards;
  • Manages the marketing and promotion of program and activities;
  • Directly manages employees and other staff indirectly, conducts performance evaluations, recruiting, training and mentoring;
  • Provides staff with guidance and advice on entrepreneurship and training issues;
  • Consults and collaborates with all key stakeholders;
  • Prepares reports and presentations internally and for external stakeholders and funders;
  • Manages and monitors budget with signing authority within established policies and procedures;
  • Works collaboratively with funding bodies and service delivery partners;
  • Investigates and cultivates opportunities for additional funding sources (grants) and community programs as required, assists with proposal writing;
  • Represents the YWCA Hamilton at community events and on relevant committees often in an advisory role;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton’s mission, vision and values;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of 3 years’ university in business, social services, marketing or human resources, or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in business and/or the employment service sector with program or project management, with a minimum of 2-years management experience;
  • Strong knowledge of small business development and entrepreneurship, including an understanding of market trends and resources for small business, particularly as they relate to women and newcomers;
  • Experience working with diverse communities;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and self-management skills to work effectively with clients, co-workers and outside agencies;
  • Excellent problem solving skills, creativity and ability to both lead teams and work in a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience in finance and accounting and working with funding sources, writing grants are assets;
  • Bilingual English/French is an asset;
  • Ability to work occasional weekend and/or evening hours;
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Ability to bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to day to day work and strategic planning;
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications including but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook
