Health Canada Contract - Two Years

 

Work Site:  Lower Mainland Purpose Society, New Westminster

                    (vehicle required)

Salary:        $23.00/hour  

Hours:          35 hours per week for 24 months

Job Summary  

The peer coordinator will develop and support peer network(s) for people with lived and current living experience with substance use in various communities.  The peer coordinator will work to identify and support peers, plan peer network meetings, train peers as educators, and provide information sessions.       

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Able to identify with a person with lived or living experience
  • Skilled in compassion, inclusion, and respectful relationship building

Responsibilities  

  • Work with peers and community partners to identify network members
  • Coordinate sustainable peer networks in New Westminster and Burnaby
  • Support peer training and support
  • Support peers in decision-making process  
  • Able to travel to meetings, community sites, and events
  • Able to work flexible hours (e.g. early mornings, evenings and weekends)
  • Have completed or be willing to complete the Take Home Naloxone Train the Trainer program
  • Flexibility to take on other duties as required

Knowledge and Skills  

  • Able to communicate and work with many different people

(e.g. peers, families, and service providers)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of larger issues related to substance use and the overdose crisis
  • Able to create supportive safe peer-driven spaces
  • Experience with public speaking and facilitating sessions
  • Self-starter and motivated to support peers

  

Recommended Qualifications   

  • Knowledge of community resources in Fraser Health Region
  • Knowledge of peer-run programs
  • Knowledge of culturally safety and humility
  • Diploma in Community Social Services and two years related experience working with people who use substances and/or personal experience with substance use or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
