Position Summary:

 

The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Director of Tenant Care in the operation of the nursing department including: dealing with family and tenant concerns, ongoing assessments, monitoring delivery of care, auditing, assisting in the planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing and continued evaluation of departmental policies and procedures and mentoring, supporting and coaching staff. The Nursing Supervisor assists in the training and evaluation of nursing staff and promotes health and safety of work practices. Also assists in the over sight of the Assisted Living Program and Fee for Service Program.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Management of Nursing Services

  • With the Director of Tenant Care, develop and interpret the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures and standards of services for the Nursing Department.
  • Participate in the holistic care of tenants. Follow up with staff regarding any ill tenants and those for whom significant problems were identified in report.

Planning, Implementing and Assessing Tenant Care / Tenant Safety

  • Assists the Director of Tenant Care in developing and implementing the departmental goals and objectives.
  • Assists in ensuring that all departmental programs meet or exceed established standards that promote a high quality of tenant care.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to privacy legislation

  • Pursue the best possible outcomes that can be achieved within Holland Christian Homes resources in the delivery of tenant care for wellness of body, mind, emotions and spirit.
  • Support the delivery of services that promote quality of life for tenants with special needs.
  • Individual quality care provided in a safe, secure environment that promotes trust.

  • Infection Control Nurse – Infection Control Committee
  • Assist with the DTC to chair and attend the Infection Control Committee.
  • Serve as liaison between the Committee members and Holland Christian Homes staff.
  • Promote staff awareness of the philosophy and objectives of the Infection Control program.
  • Co-ordinate surveillance programs; maintain the established system of records on incidence of infection and submit summarized reports to the committee.
  • Arrange and/or support In-service Education based on the identified needs of the department or an individual staff
  • Assists the DTC in ensuring that staff are trained and knowledgeable regarding departmental procedures.
  • Monitors and maintains vaccine supply.
  • Participate in the competency of nursing staff by a process of audits for the performance of specific skills/tasks.

  • Responsible for the inventory and control of nursing supplies and products.
  • Maintain appropriate use of nursing equipment and supplies provided.
  • Ensure all hazardous supplies are securely maintained at all times.

  • Staff Scheduling
  • With the DTC, responsible for ensuring the staff schedule is adhered to and appropriate staffing levels as per budget.
  • Assists with filling call-in shifts when the scheduler is not available.
  • Other duties as required
  •  
  • Qualifications:
  • Must possess a current Certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO) is desirable
  • Demonstrates solid nursing, leadership and organizational skills. Is a role model.
  • 3 years relevant experience in a community care setting including infection control
  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • CPR Certified
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to speak Dutch in addition to English would be an asset
  • Strong management and written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership abilities including a proven track record of inspiring and motivating employee performance
  • Extensive knowledge of Infection Control Practices and Assisted Living Program including inter-RAI CHA assessments
  • Ability to work flexible hours dependent upon demands
  • Assume on-call duty on a rotating basis and as needed.
  • Good computer knowledge including inter-RAI CHA assessments, Health Links Coordinated Care Plans and data collection
  • Clear TB test, Annual Flu immunization (unless medically exempt)
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)
