Job Title:  RISE Case Specialist – English and Tigrinya Speaking

Status:  Temporary, Part Time

Hours:  28 hours/week

Start Date:  ASAP

End Date: March 31, 2020 with possibility of extension

We are currently recruiting for the role of RISE Case Specialist – English and Tigrinya Speaking to join our team in Surrey, BC.

 

The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Conducts outreach to solicit client referrals to the program;
  • Responds to client referrals by outlining the program eligibility and services;
  • Conducts intake of eligible clients and provides information on and referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required;
  • Conducts in-home assessment of client needs, assets and capacities through interviewing clients, preparing case histories;
  • Plans, prepares and conducts life skills training, encouragement and support (individual service);
  • Participates in the development, implementation and facilitation of group workshops which reflect the emerging needs of the client identified in the assessment and are related to the action plan;
  • Provides in-home and community support and guidance to clients and families; facilitates positive family communication, assists clients in making positive changes and solving problems related to integration and self-sufficiency;
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to clients;
  • Develops client service/action plans ensuring that the plan is integrated and holistic;
  • In more complex cases, participates in integrated case management meetings or meets with professionals and social workers to report clients’ activities and progress, discuss case planning issues and concerns;
  • Maintains related records and statistics. Produces reports, including intake, progress, and discharge in accordance with established policies and guidelines;
  • Liaises with other community service providers, professionals to coordinate services and to ensure that interests of clients are considered in decisions affecting them;
  • Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as needed.

 

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Diploma or Degree in related human/social service or related field;
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent related experience working with vulnerable refugee populations or equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Tigrinya at a professional level;
  • Written and verbal fluency in Amharic considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated recent experience related to the case management of the specific refugee client communities in the language outlined above;
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: immigration matters, child protection and family support, and women and gender issues;
  • Demonstrated recent experience in conducting client needs assessments with multi- barrier vulnerable immigrant and refugee populations and implementing a holistic action plan;
  • Demonstrated ability to implement professional boundaries with clients;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the refugee experience and refugee settlement issues;
  • Knowledge of community agencies, services and resources, especially in the communities of Surrey, North Delta and/or Langley;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, problem solve with confidence to ensure effective case management;
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment and software applications;
  • Adaptability to work in a position that requires mobility within the community;
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and use of personal vehicle.
