The work of the BC SPCA is supported by over 500 employees and 5000 compassionate volunteers across the province who help us assist nearly forty-nine thousand abused, abandoned, injured and neglected animals every year.  We are looking for an Officer, Marketing and Community Development to join our social enterprise department to help in seeking opportunities to promote the Society and Social Enterprise initiatives at community events and in various media.


This position will accomplish business development activities by researching, developing and implementing marketing opportunities. The overall purpose of this position is to promote humane animal care and raise awareness of animal welfare issues through maximizing the success of Society’s Social Enterprise programs such as the BC Pet Registry.

You will have an opportunity to development your professional skills and make a positive difference.  You have confidence to work autonomously or as a member of a team. You are able to handle multiple priorities across a number of assignments and prioritize effectively.


The work will include:

  • Represents organization at community events, seeking advantageous partnerships with community businesses, vendors and individuals. 
  • Leads and coordinates all aspects of events and/or trade shows including pre-planning, onsite execution and post event wrap up.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises event volunteers in accordance with the Society’s approved recruitment process.
  • Accomplishes marketing and sales objectives by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating advertising, merchandising, and trade promotion programs; develops field sales action plans.
  • Develops strategies and tactics to increase revenues through qualitative and quantitative analysis of products and programs.
  • Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Identifies marketing opportunities by identifying consumer requirements; defining market and competitor's strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business.
  • Improves product marketability and profitability by researching, identifying, and capitalizing on market opportunities.
  • Brings new and innovative ideas and solutions to help re-invent and create programs and/or products.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Cooperates with other departments and programs within the organization.
  • Accomplishes marketing and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

 To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Post-secondary degree in Marketing plus a minimum of 3 years directly related relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Motivated and confident, with great verbal and presentation skills
  • Ability to discuss and promote our products and services to customers
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment independently or in a team
  • Analytical and a creative problem solver
  • Resourceful and has ability to develop relationships with suppliers
  • Knowledge and skill in marketing and advertising strategies, community events, benefits and functions, special event planning and creative writing
  • Ability to function independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with media, community agencies and businesses
  • Philosophical alignment with the vision and mission of the BC SPCA
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours when required
