PeaceGeeks is a non-profit organization that builds digital tools to empower communities in the pursuit of peace. We focus on inspiring local action to address local challenges in the myriad of communities in which we work. Winner of the 2017 Google.org Impact Challenge, PeaceGeeks has eight years of experience in the peace tech space, working with both small community organizations and large partners like the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Government of Canada. Our projects focus on developing scalable technology and community engagement platforms that contribute to building stronger communities in Canada and abroad. 


These projects include a community initiative in Jordan working to combat polarization online and the development of an app for newcomers to Canada called Arrival Advisor. 


We are based in Vancouver, Canada, and Amman, Jordan. Our Vancouver office is based at the HiVE coworking space (210-128 West Hastings St., Vancouver).

Position Description

We are seeking a visionary leader for the role of Executive Director to continue PeaceGeeks’ success during this pivotal moment of exponential growth for our organization.

Reporting to a Board of Directors, you will lead and grow our organization to deliver its primary outcomes in the not-for-profit peace-tech space. Your leadership and experience will sustainably develop our culture and our teams to deliver outstanding results in our projects. 


The role requires someone with domain expertise and passion for creating strategies, programming, policy, and research at the intersection of technology and peace. 


The existing Executive Director & Founder will step down shortly after the successful candidate is in place and equipped with the necessary training and resources. 



The incoming Executive Director will possess the following:

  • An advanced degree in Management, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Development or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of senior leadership experience in a non-profit organization where you were successful at building and maintaining a strong team culture
  • In-depth understanding of the key issues at the intersection of technology and peace in Canada and internationally
  • Exceptional communications, outreach, and fundraising skills, including with potential granting organizations, individual donors and corporate funders
  • Experience leading remote teams
  • Experience managing project and organizational level budgets
  • Previous experience with Agile methodologies for Project Management an asset
  • Experience with peace tech, tech sector, or government relations an asset
  • Knowledge on Canadian immigration considered an asset


Tasks & Responsibilities


  • Overseeing the development of a long-term Strategic Plan for PeaceGeeks’ growth and development
  • Enhancing and expanding funding based on the Strategic Plan, including through core funding, grant writing, corporate outreach, individual giving, donor stewardship, capital planning and implement new sustainable funding models 
  • Continuously strengthening PeaceGeeks’ core operational capacities including through staffing, financial management,  internal evaluations and project Monitoring & Evaluation towards strengthening organizational and project impact 
  • Overseeing the revision of marketing and communications messaging and strategy towards strengthening brand identity and fundraising
  • Conducting personnel evaluations towards strengthen team development in line with career aspirations and organizational objectives
  • Creating and maintaining meaningful relationships with all key community stakeholders
  • Representing PeaceGeeks and issues related to technology and peace in key public appearances, including speeches

Work Location


The Executive Director will work from the PeaceGeeks offices at the HiVE co-working space in Vancouver in the vibrant neighborhood of Gastown (128 West Hastings Street). The Executive Director is permitted to work from home on occasion when necessary.
