Organization/Position Overview:

Throughout Edmonton and area, for nearly five decades, WIN House has given women and children of all ages and cultures a safe place to flee. From passionate professionals and volunteers, to dedicated donors and champions of the cause, WIN House is committed to providing safety, support, relief and resources for abuse victims.

Crisis Intervention Workers are a woman’s first point of contact. They are the people that answer their call when they need help, they are the people that answer the doors with a friendly smile and often, they are the ones with whom women share stories they haven’t told their closest friend.

Please certificates of education, cover letter and a current résumé including brief description of work, workshops taken, any public speaking events undertaken, other accomplishments, i.e. committees, procedures developed, etc., group work (development and/or facilitation).



Degree or diploma in a related field. If applicable must have current registration and be in good standing. Work experience in the area of crisis intervention or domestic violence with adults or children preferred. Equivalent combinations of life/work and education/experience may be considered.


Personal Qualities and Skills:


  • Experience with, and theoretical knowledge of, child development and family theory.
  • Knowledge of family violence and skills in crisis intervention.
  • The ability to deal with other agencies and services in an effective and professional manner.
  • Familiar with the indicators of child abuse
  • Ability to be non-judgmental and empathetic to the needs, feelings, and circumstances of women and children in crisis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a “team member” with other staff and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to deal with work-related stress in a healthy manner.


  • Knowledge of child related and family support community services.
  • Ability to be flexible and work comfortably in residential setting.


  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Lay knowledge of family law and legal issues.
  • Working knowledge of the Child Welfare Act

Applicants will be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, a current Child Welfare check, hold a current First Aid Certificate and must be willing to sign an Oath of Confidentiality if hired.

Shelter Director and Intensive Case Manager


The Salary:

Hourly rate is $25.89 plus $1.75 SHD as per the Salary Grid.

Shift: 2330-0730
