The Agency

The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a charity that reduces crime and makes Calgary communities safer by helping youth and adults make positive changes and move away from criminal behaviour. The Program

The Youth Residential Services offers support to youth between the ages of 15-24 facing multiple risks and barriers to move from their experience of homelessness to a life of independence. Our two residences, Raido House and Windsor Park, provide a continuum of care with services of housing and support, life skills enhancement and access to community resources.

The Position

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Mobile Support Staff will be knowledgeable about the issues youth face in the cycle of homelessness. This position will work alongside the Youth Residential and Roofs for Youth teams to:

  • Deal with routine and crisis situations
  • Maintain a creative and sensitive approach in meeting the needs of the residents
  • Role model healthy behaviour for residents
  • Complete all documentation and write case notes
  • Attend to cleaning and meal preparation
  • Provide support to residents to developing independent living skills
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Knowledge of Housing First and Harm Reduction

The Mobile Support Staff will have: a valid Class 5 Driver’s License as they will be required to travel between the two residences; a post-secondary education in a relevant discipline; and two years’ experience working with the target population. The successful candidate will be trauma-informed, knowledgeable of the Natural Supports Practice Framework, exhibit strong boundaries, communication and relationship-building skills, and have crisis-prevention and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice System is an asset. Candidates for the above position will have to successfully undertake a Calgary Police Information Check (CPIC) and a Child Welfare Information System [CWIS] check.
