Location: Edmonton, Alberta – Remote position, based in satellite office


AAISA’s Engagement, Research, and Policy unit works to develop a collaborative system in the settlement and integration sector in Alberta. The position of Strategy Lead is responsible for advancing a portfolio of projects within the team’s overarching engagement strategy.


This position leads initiatives that convene diverse stakeholders to build a collective voice and facilitate collaborative solutions to shared issues. In addition to such initiatives, this position is also responsible for forming recommendations and supportive materials in response to emerging trends and issues.


This position works collaboratively with all members of the Engagement, Research, and Policy unit, actively strengthening the assets of the team and provides support where needed based on shifting conditions.


AAISA’s main office is in Calgary and this position works remotely in a satellite office in Edmonton. Travel to Calgary and/or other municipalities in Alberta will take place on a monthly basis.


Roles and Responsibilities

Collaborative System Development

  • Lead a portfolio of projects and initiatives, with primary responsibility for facilitating various committees and working groups including AAISA’s Provincial Engagement Initiative
  • Lead the development of engagement specific to Francophone newcomer serving agencies
  • Convene wide-ranging stakeholders and facilitate to achieve set goals and objectives
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and analyze projects and outputs
  • Identify and understand local contexts to synthesize provincial-level priorities
  • Undertake all facets of coordinating meetings and engagement initiatives, including background research, facilitation, creating supporting materials, logistics, minutes, and reporting


Sector Representation

  • Employ various methods to ascertain individual, organizational, and system level priorities
  • Engage in data collection and analysis of gaps and needs to apply an action-oriented approach
  • Develop and implement evidence-based strategies and tactics to address issues that affect the settlement and integration of newcomers
  • Elevate emergent sector information to management and relevant stakeholders, supporting responsiveness to needs at all levels
  • Create resources and tools to support agencies to build capacity
  • Produce reports, letters, briefs, and other documents to mobilize positions of the sector
  • Participate in relevant meetings, presentations, and/or fora to represent sector priorities and positions


Relationship BuildinG

  • Actively foster relationships with members and other stakeholders to build understanding of context, identify opportunities for partnership, and tailor AAISA supports
  • Conduct site visits to agencies in smaller municipalities across Alberta, representing up to ten site visits per year
  • Utilize individual relationships and contextual understanding to garner nuanced perspectives and refine scope of provincial initiatives
  • Negotiate shifting interests and priorities among stakeholders to coalesce a shared vision for newcomers’ settlement and integration
  • Connect with organizations in the settlement and integration sector to facilitate relationship building and the growth of AAISA’s membership
  • Create partnerships in the community to build AAISA’s stakeholder base and encourage collaboration across sectors


Other Duties

  • Make decisions within an ever-changing set of circumstances, in pursuit of the stated mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the organization
  • Work collaboratively with all AAISA units on projects and initiatives as they arise
  • Contribute to broader organizational deliverables, including event planning for conferences and meetings
  • Support the maintenance of a stakeholder database, with up-to-date details on contacts
  • Report writing and minute taking
  • Monthly travel to Calgary
  • Frequent travel to other municipalities across Alberta
  • Perform related duties as assigned



  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, project planning and implementation, and collaboration
  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset
  • French language fluency will be prioritized
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Personable with strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to work independently, while being a collaborative and supportive team member
  • Adaptive and responsive in a dynamic work environment and with shifting priorities
  • Priority will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience working in remote environments
