Job Title:  Seniors Program Worker

 

Summary:  Kiwassa Neighbourhood House, a multi-service community agency working in East Vancouver is seeking a friendly, welcoming, and energetic Senior Program Worker.  This full-time position will assist with the planning and implementation of engaging seniors programs and activities, in coordination with Seniors Program Coordinator. The Seniors Program Worker is fluent is both English and Spanish and brings experience working in community-based multicultural seniors programs. The successful candidate is well organized and has strong data collection and administration skills to support project evaluation. The Senior Program Worker reports to Kiwassa’s Seniors Program Coordinator.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements, in coordination with Seniors Program Coordinator, community-based multicultural seniors programs, primarily in the lunch program and crafts program.
  • Encourages and facilitates seniors’ participation in program activities. 
  • Promotes program in broader community. Maintains up to date knowledge of community needs and resources.
  • Maintains program statistics. Provides reports to supervisors as needed. Complies with privacy legislation and all relevant regulations and policies.
  • Evaluates the program, in collaboration with Seniors Program Coordinator.
  • Supports seniors to volunteer and participate with senior led activities
  • Assists with delivering volunteer training and coordinating workshops for seniors
  • Works collaboratively as part of the Kiwassa Seniors Program Team and with other Kiwassa programs and community partners.
  • Maintains clean, well-organized and appropriate program space.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development.
  • Assists the program to meet the terms and conditions of the funding contracts.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Two years’ relevant post-secondary training in social service field.
  • Second language required, Spanish speaking is an asset
  • Min. 2 years related experience providing direct services to seniors and new immigrants.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal in English and Spanish.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate is an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Excellent ability to work as part of a multicultural team.
  • Knowledgeable about relevant community resources and experience providing referrals.

 

COMPENSATION:

  • This is a 35 hours per week position offering that pays $21/hr + excellent benefits package.
