This intermediate role reports to the Manager of Human Resources and provides crucial consultative support to Foothills County and the Human Resources Department (“HR”). The Human Resources Advisor is responsible for a wide range of traditional HR functions, including but not limited to recruitment, employee onboarding and orientation, disability administration and management, responding to employee and labor relations issues, providing input with respect to HR policy, strategy, and planning, as well as handling the day-to-day activities of the department.


Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience working in the field of human resources, or the equivalent of five years of HR Advisor or Generalist experience that has gradually expanded in scope and responsibility.
  • A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or working toward completion is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Legislation (Alberta Employment Standards Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Human Rights Act.), WCB, FOIP and PIPEDA.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office applications and experience or knowledge in navigating various software including Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and Avanti are highly desirable.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment, manage competing demands, and handle uncertainty, delays, and unforeseen events.
  • Ability to preserve discretion and confidentiality in all transactions. Must have a high level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative with problem solving.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and capacity adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
  • Payroll and benefits knowledge and experience would be beneficial.
