Houses Opening Today Toronto (HOTT) is a non-profit organization that develops and manages affordable rental housing. Our portfolio includes fourteen small to medium-sized properties in Toronto. HOTT also offers specialized support services to vulnerable residents. 

 

Job Posting – Maintenance Worker – Full-time     

HOTT seeks a permanent full-time Maintenance Worker to be responsible for the maintenance work at all HOTT properties. The position offers a competitive salary, flexible working hours and health benefits.  

 

Overview of Position: 

The Maintenance Worker contributes to quality living environments consistent with HOTT’s mission and values. This position works collaboratively with HOTT staff and tenants.  

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  • Responds to and addresses incoming and ongoing work orders 
  • Participates in performing unit inspections 
  • Posts 24-hour notices of entry in a timely manner 
  • Assists with maintaining key systems  
  • Participates in the onboarding of new computerized property management system 
  • Maintains grounds including seeding, watering, and cutting grass; removing fall leaves; keeping hard surfaces free of snow and ice 
  • Responsible for building hygiene and overall cleanliness of properties 
  • Assists with restocking, distributing, and replacing supplies and parts including: cleaning supplies, light bulbs, and plumbing and hardware parts 
  • Ensures garbage, recycling, and green bins are kept clean and brought to curb on collection days 
  • Responsible for applying pest control products and protocols, and monitoring buildings for presence of pests 
  • Performs minor repairs in units and common areas 
  • Regular on-call duties shared with other staff on a rotational basis 
  • Attends Annual General Meetings, Strategy Day and Board of Directors meetings as required 
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

 

Requirements: 

  • Strong written and spoken English 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Strong organization skills and punctuality  
  • Excellent customer service skill with sensitivity towards working with marginalized populations 
  • A valid driver’s license as well as access to a vehicle at all times 
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations 
  • Ability to work co-operatively with tenants, staff, trades, and community resources 
  • Thorough knowledge of cleaning materials, cleaning equipment, fire safety, preventative maintenance, and mechanical and electrical systems 
  • Familiar with applicable codes and legislation such as Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), Housing Services Act (HSA), Ontario Fire Code, Building Code and Human Rights Code 
  • Ability to use standard workplace computer applications and software such as MS Office 
  • Working conditions include heavy lifting (up to 30 kilograms), exposure to heights, chemicals/odours, animals, pests, smoke, and outside weather conditions 
  • A current police reference check 

 

Helpful to have: 

WHMIS certification 

Emergency First Aid and CPR certification 

Fall Safety certification 

Languages other than English
